A stolen statue of baseball star Jackie Robinson that was taken from a park in Kansas was discovered broken and burned in a garbage can fire on Tuesday morning.

Now, authorities are looking for the perpetrators in what they have said is a “disgraceful act.”

Last week, the statue was stolen from McAdams Park in Wichita. Footage showed people going into Jackie Robinson Pavilion, close to midnight on Thursday. They took the statue and put it in a pickup truck. Additionally, they dismantled the statue at the ankles and left the feet. Damages are said to be about $75,000.

Then, on Tuesday, at about 8:38 a.m., a report of a garbage can fire at Garvey Park was called in. After the fire was put out, firefighters discovered what appeared to be parts of the Robinson statue. They have said that what’s left can’t be salvaged.

Now, the Wichita Fire Department is investigating the fire as police continue to look into the matter of the theft.

Authorities say that they have found the truck that they think was used in transporting the statue, but other details weren’t provided.

“…we will be arresting several people for what they’ve done to our community,” said the chief of police.
