Kevyn Rojas, a 28-year-old Lyft driver, was apprehended on Tuesday after authorities say that he raped a tourist who was drunk. The Miami tourist was in Rojas’s vehicle at the time.
Rojas has been charged with sexual battery of a helpless victim, reports indicate.
When Rojas was in court, on Wednesday, a judge set his bond at $500,000.
Documents note that the tourist had come from Texas and was residing at a hotel on Collins Avenue. The victim had visited a bar with a friend in Wynwood.
The woman began to feel ill and had a Lyft to transport her back to her hotel.
When the victim got into Rojas’s car, she went to sleep. She was awaken at some point and saw her hotel, but Rojas continued to drive.
He then parked the vehicle, moved to the backseat where the victim was, and battered her sexually.
The woman was too drunk to fight the man off but told him to stop.
She called police right after Rojas dropped her off at her hotel.
Police say camera footage has proved the woman’s statement about what occurred.
Lyft released a statement, saying that they require background checks and screen all of their drivers. Rojas is no longer on their platform as they assist police with the investigation.
