Woman Killed Two People In Deadly Police Chase After Lying About Being Abducted

Last week, a woman in New Mexico led police on a chase on the expressway, going the wrong way.

It resulted in a major accident, involving a five-car pileup. A retired firefighter, Frank Lovato, 62, and a police officer, Robert Duran, 43, were killed.

Jeanine Jaramillo, 46, had first told authorities that her new boyfriend had abducted her. He then had held a knife to her and made her drive them away in a car that was later determined to be stolen.

After the wreck, Jaramillo was seen crawling out of the window and screaming for help. She was treated at a medical facility and was later released.

Observers and Jaramillo had said that the kidnapper had run from the location. However, officers never found anyone that matched the description. An officer also noted in a police report that he never observed anyone else in the vehicle.

Evidence later proved that Jaramillo was in the vehicle alone. She was then apprehended and charged with first-degree murder, reckless homicide by vehicle, receiving and transferring a stolen vehicle, and tampering with evidence.

Police noted that a similar situation happened with Jaramillo back in September. She had taken police on a chase, and when they located her at her residence, she said that a man had been holding a knife to her neck.
