A 14-year-old that was arrested earlier this month in Plank has been linked to at least 40 stolen Kias and Hyundais.
TikTok users everywhere have seen the videos broadcasting how easy it is to steal Kia and Hyundai vehicles due to a security flaw. According to Plano police, that’s exactly was sparked this chain of crime.
On July 6, in a West Plano neighborhood, a homeowner caught the 14-year-old suspect attempting to steal a vehicle and restrained him until he was arrested.
Since then, Plano police have tied at least 38 other stolen vehicles to the teenager, however, officials don’t believe he was working alone.
Kia and Hyundai owners are urged to take their vehicles into the dealership for a software security update which would prevent the “TikTok trend”. In addition, the strongly suggest owners purchase and use a wheel-lock at all times.
