16-Year-Old Killed As Teens Take Turns Shooting At Each Other While Wearing Body-Armored Vest

On Thursday, two teens were apprehended after police said that they were shooting at each other as they were wearing a protective vest.

On Sunday, April 3, the Belleview Police Department, in Tampa, Florida, arrived to the scene of a shooting call. In the 10400 block of southeast 52nd Court, they discovered Christopher Leroy Broad, 16, suffering from a gunshot injury.

Broad was transported to a hospital where he died from his wounds.

While investigating, authorities learned that Joshua Vining and Colton Whitler, both 17, were exchanging gunfire while having on a vest that has body armor.

Police say that Vining shot Broad as he was wearing the vest. Reports state that Whitler was first questioned as a witness to the incident. However, he was untruthful with his account of what happened and who Broad was shot by.

On Thursday, Vining was taken into custody and indicted on aggravated manslaughter of a child with a firearm charge. Whitler, was arrested, as well, in relation to the shooting for giving inaccurate information to authorities.

Both teenagers have been charged as adults.
