A 16-year-old was fatally shot inside her home Friday morning in Humble, Texas. Her mother’s boyfriend has been arrested in the case.
Van Henry Brisbon, 60, was charged with murder in the death of Lauren Juma, 16.
At 1 o’clock in the morning on Friday, Lauren Facetimed her mother and 19-year-old sister and asked to be picked up from home.
Her sister, Keryca, drove to the house to pick her up like she asked. When she arrived, she heard two gunshots and there were police outside searching around the house.
According to court records, Lauren told her mom, Laurie Young, in a separate Facetime call that Brisbon was standing inside her room in the dark. Lauren then screamed, “Mom he has a gun!” and the call was ended.
Meanwhile, Young, who was working in Austin, rushed back to the home she shared with Brisbon and her daughter for three years.
Family members who had met Brisbon while he was dating Young say he seemed friendly and had no problems.
Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit have not released a possible motive.
Brisbon is being held on a $1 million bond. He is scheduled to be back in court on Monday.
