Body Discovered In Trinity River Bottoms Believed To Be Suspect Wanted For Seagoville Shooting
On June 25, close to 10:30 a.m., the body of what is thought to be 21-year-old Preston Steele Smith, was handed over to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office. This came after the body was found in the East Fork Trinity River bottoms. Smith had been named as a suspect in relation to a shooting that occurred in Seagoville, Texas.
The body was discovered in a remote location. This was close to Interstate 20, near mile marker 485.
The Seagoville Police Department noted that because of certain circumstances, it took nine hours to retrieve the body that was found by relatives. They added that it seems as though the adult male had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot injury to the head. A 9mm pistol was found, as well.
On June 19, 2023, Smith had been reported missing out of Austin. Relatives had reported that he had been acting strangely; however, a reason for the suicide isn’t known.
That same evening that Smith went missing, he is said to have been involved in a shooting that happened in the Seagoville area. He fled from the location where the shooting occurred in a white Subaru SUV which had been found abandoned on June 22, 2023. This was several yards from where the deceased male had been found in the wooded-area.
The shooting offense happened in the 1300 block of Alto Road. The victim wasn’t hit by gunfire and wasn’t harmed.
An investigation is on-going.
