A man and his 14 year old son have been arrested and charged after the son shot and killed a 13 year old girl in New Mexico.
The incident happened on Friday at a residence on the 100 block of Cabresto Road in Questa. Officers responded to the scene around 2:30 p.m. to find an unresponsive 13 year old.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
While investigating officers learned that four teens were inside the home listening to music when the 14 year old male grabbed a gun and shot the girl. After shooting the girl according to NMSP press release the boy then drug the girls body outside the house and went back in with his friends.
Shortly after the shooting the boys father, 39 year old William Brown, returned home and when police arrived refused to go outside.
After a 30 minute standoff Brown and his 14 year old son walked outside and were arrested without incident.
The teen was taken to San Juan Juvenile Detention Center and charged with an open count of murder in the first degree, two counts of tampering with evidence and two counts of assault on a police officer.
The father was booked into Taos County Detention Center and charged with negligently making a firearm accessible to a minor resulting in death.
This is an ongoing investigation and no further details have been released on what caused the shooting.
