Football Players Knowingly Scatter Peanuts All Over Allergic Teammates Locker

The mother of high school football player Carter Mannon says that her son’s teammates put peanuts in his locker although they knew he was allergic. What’s worse, she says that the school district stated that they do not categorize the dangerous incident as bullying.

Carter’s nut allergy was known to many at Lake Travis High School, in Texas, specifically after an unintentional exposure happened during his freshman year. That resulted in him being transported to an emergency room.

“They were kind of joking around about it. They said, ‘But could it kill you if it touched you? And he says, ‘Yeah, it absolutely could.’ If it got in his nose, eyes, or mouth, that’s where it could go into anaphylactic shock. And so, he told them, ‘Yes, it could absolutely kill me,” his mother said.

However, Carter’s teammates didn’t seem to care what the consequences may be and placed the peanuts in the locker anyway. His mother says that they scattered the can of peanuts all over her son’s jersey and cleats.

One teammate attempted to go back and fix the mess; however, it was too late.

As Carter, who was a sophomore last October when the incident happened, went to retrieve his belongings from his locker, peanuts fell all over the floor. Instantly, Carter broke out in hives on his arms.

Following the incident, Shawna Mannon, Carter’s mother, took the matter to the school board after she felt that there wasn’t enough action taken. There is also now a demand for a reclassifying of bullying that would entail such dangerous occurrences.

“I am obviously disappointed. I don’t know what else to call it,” Shawna Mannon said in frustration regarding the board’s decision.
