Judge Throws Out George Zimmerman’s Lawsuit Against Trayvon Martin’s Parents

6kviews

George Zimmerman, who fatally shot Trayvon Martin in 2012, had a recent lawsuit against Trayvon’s parents dismissed by a Florida judge, on Monday.

The case was regarding defamation and conspiracy.

Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin were sued by Zimmerman for $100 million in damages. The lawsuit states that their book, published by Harper Collins, characterizes Zimmerman as a racist. It also claimed that the two had “destroyed his good will and reputation in the community.” Civil rights lawyer Ben Crump, the family’s attorney, was also sued in the case.

The lawsuit alleged that Crump and Trayvon Martin’s parents conspired to get him charged in the killing of Trayvon.

Zimmerman’s suit added that an important witness, Rachel Jeantel, lied during the 2013 trial. It was said that she gave an untruthful testimony so that she could testify instead of her half-sister, Brittany Eugene. Jeantel, Eugene, and Harper Collins were named in the lawsuit, too.

However, Judge John Cooper, of Tallahassee, didn’t agree. He noted that the ex-neighborhood watch had “failed to show any fraudulent representation.”

In 2013, Zimmerman was found not guilty of murder for shooting Trayvon as he walked home, in a hooded sweatshirt, after buying snacks. In 2019, Zimmerman filed the defamation lawsuit.
