An Illinois mother was arrested after her 10-year-old son was found dead in a garbage can in the garage.
Sushi Staples, 37, was charged with failure to report the death of a child under 13, concealment of death, and obstruction of justice in the death of her son Zion Staples.
According to reports, an unidentified woman called the Department of Children and Family Services on July 25 to report Staples. The woman explained that she had cause for concern after speaking with the mother on several different occasions. The reports state that Staples told the woman Christmas won’t be the same this year.
Following the DCFS report, a welfare check was issued to the home which subsequently launched an investigation into the mother. The body of 10-year-old Zion Staples was found inside a garbage can in the garage of the home. Reports say the boy had been there for 7 months.
The results of the autopsy determined the cause of death as “Suspicious.”
Sushi Staples was booked into the Rock Island County Jail where her bond was set at $500,000.
