Classes were canceled on Thursday and the campus was closed on Friday after the body of a student was found hanging from a tree at Travis Early College High School.
Staff members, employed with the Austin Independent School District, located the body of a female student just before 8 a.m. on Thursday. Police and EMS were dispatched to the scene where she was pronounced deceased.
Austin ISD made the decision to cancel classes at around 8:30 a.m. The decision was made shortly after to close the campus the following day.
The victim has been identified as an 11th grader at the campus.
Officials say no students were exposed to the crime scene before it was discovered by staff members.
Counselors will be on-site at the return of school on Monday for all grieving students and staff.
