A woman was fatally shot by a resident in Arlington after breaking into in a home early Thursday morning while the family was asleep.

Authorities have reported that the family heard noises as the woman was breaking in. This was in the 1300 block of South Pecan Street.

The residents had disclosed to police that their teenage son had heard voices that he was unfamiliar with. Then, the father retrieved a firearm and went to check on the situation. He then discovered the woman in the kitchen and instructed her to exit the home, but she refused. The woman went toward the father, and he shot her.

Police say that when they arrived on the scene at about 2:10 a.m., they discovered a woman dead with gunshot injuries.

The residents stated that they had never met the woman before. Additionally, police say that she wasn’t carrying identification, and they’re unclear why she was in or how she got inside of the residence.

No criminal charges have been filed in the case, authorities say. They also say that the woman’s name will be released by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office once she is positively identified and her next of kin has been informed.
