A 7-year-old boy is dead after a shooting broke out after an argument over jet skis on the 4th of July.
The Florida boy and his grandfather were both shot at the Courtney Campbell Causeway near Ben T. Davis Beach in Florida.
Police were dispatched to the area around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday for reports of shots fired. According to officials, an argument over reckless jet skiing erupted due to parents being concerned for their children’s safety.
The argument then escalated into a shoot out.
The 7-year-old boy and his grandfather were inside of their vehicle attempted to flee the scene after hearing the gunfire when they were both struck by bullets.
The little boy was shot in the head and died at the scene. The grandfather was shot in the hand and transported to the hospital for treatment. He is in stable condition.
No suspects have been identified as of yet. The investigation remains ongoing.
Deputy Chief Calvin Johnson with the Tampa Police Department held a press conference on Wednesday to discuss the incident and ask for any witnesses to come forward with information.
