On Tuesday, a North Carolina sheriff’s deputy was terminated after a video recording showed him putting his knee on a Black man’s neck.
Deputy Aaron Edwards was fired after an internal investigation was conducted and body cam and security recordings were analyzed.
Gary Thomas’s family had submitted a recording of him being apprehended for marijuana possession.
Relatives stated that the deputy put his knee on the man’ neck and left him on the ground on the outer part of the courthouse. He then pulled Thomas’s limp body into the courthouse as a woman is heard yelling, “Oh my God! Get him some help!”
One of the man’s family members attempted to help him, and she was arrested.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the matter.
