A Florida GameStop employee has been charged with Manslaughter after police say he fatally shot a man attempting to steal $600 worth of Pokémon cards.

33-year-old Derrick Guerrero was working at the Fort Lauderdale location on Tuesday when the man entered the store. Guerrero watched as the man grabbed five boxes of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet “ultra-premium” trading cards and headed for the door.

Guerrero grabbed his handgun from his waistband and fired one single shot at the unarmed man, striking him on the side. The injured man dropped the cards and fled to a pickup truck waiting outside. A woman then called 9-1-1 and he was taken to the hospital where he died three hours later.

Police say the attempted shoplifter was not carrying any weapons and never threatened the GameStop employee.

Guerrero was charged with Manslaughter and booked into the Broward County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

  1. 600.00? Thats the worth of thief’s life? I don’t agree with shoplifting but to shoot an unarmed man? your store would’ve likely have been reimbursed for the cost of the stolen items.. ya didn’t have to shoot him.. that was uncalled for and unnecessary..
