36-year-old Marcus Lockett, from Houston, Texas, has been given a 40-year-prison sentence for fatally beating his girlfriend in 2018.

Lockett had been convicted of murdering his girlfriend, 31-year-old Latara Sanders.

“Far too often we see cases like this in which domestic violence turns into murder,” stated Harris County DA, Kim Ogg.

On August 18, 2018, after being a couple for almost twenty years, Lockett killed Sanders.

“We often don’t know everything that happens behind closed doors, like this case. But, this is the worst case scenario of what can happen in domestic violence cases,” stated William Orr who helped prosecute the case.

Sanders family went looking for her two days after she was killed. They had become worried when they hadn’t heard from her or Lockett. They then discovered her deceased body inside of her residence.

A few days later. Lockett was interviewed by detectives after his mother called authorities. Lockett had told his mother that he and Sanders had gotten into an altercation. He then said that “things had too far.”

Last week, Lockett was convicted by a jury, in Harris County, after a four-day trial. Judge Brian Warren handed him is 40-year sentence.
