On Monday, the Department of Justice announced that Demontre Antwon Hackworth, 31, is facing federal charges. This was after claims that he purchased more than 90 guns from licensed dealers to illegally resell them.

Hackworth, from North Texas, was apprehended on June 10, in Dallas.

He was indicted for dealing firearms without a license and making false statements while buying a firearm.

Documents state that Hackworth bought 92 guns from federally licensed firearm dealers. 75 of those came from one dealer in just six months. It is alleged that Hackworth then sold the firearms, without a license, to others and didn’t perform background checks on the buyers.

The dealer who sold the 75 firearms to Hackworth, in Waxahachie, has surrendered his seller’s license.

16 of the guns related to Hackworth have been found in Texas, Maryland, and Canada. They are said to have been used in murders, aggravated assault, and drug trafficking. One of the killings was a 21-year-old transgender woman, Kier Lapri Kartier, in Arlington.

If he is found guilty, Hackworth could receive up to 35 years in federal prison.
